Jose Padilla Found Guilty

As per CNN.com:

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- The jury in the Jose Padilla terror trial has found the American guilty of conspiracy to support Islamic terrorism overseas.

Jose Padilla was originally accused of planning a "dirty bomb" attack in the U.S.

Padilla was originally arrested on accusations that he planned to set off radioactive "dirty bombs" in the United States. Thursday's convictions are not related to those accusations, and prosecutors did not present the "dirty bomb" plot to the jury.

Padilla's two co-defendants, Adham Hassoun and Kifan Jayyousi, were also found guilty on the three counts as charged: conspiracy to murder, kidnap, and maim people in a foreign country; conspiracy to provide material support for terrorists, and providing material support for terrorists.

The verdict came after less than two days of deliberations by the federal jury in Miami.

Sentencing is set for December 5. All three defendants face life in prison.

I will never trust this verdict. I can't get past that they kept an American Citizen in custody for over three years, and refused to tell why he was in custody. Mr. Padilla's case is symptomatic of why I loathe the Bush Administration and all their so-called ' War-On-Terror' policies implemented in the United States.

No, I don't believe it's right for ANYONE to be held in this country WITHOUT BEING TOLD WHY.

No, I don't believe it's right for ANYONE to be held, and for this country TO REFUSE THEIR COUNSEL ACCESS TO THEM.

So, no, I will never believe in the validity of this conviction, especially since he was convicted of something that WASN'T EVEN THE REASON HE WAS ARRESTED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Sounds like a government dog-and-pony show trial done to ensure conviction. How do you trust a Justice Department that has done nothing but lie and betray the very standards that America is supposed to be about...I ask that honestly.

No? Really?

I can only guess that an acquittal would have resulted in a post from you that attacked the Bush Administration......kinda like the one that the GUILTY verdict has generated from you.
